Presented with Award, May 5th 2005

On Thursday May 5th,2005 Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney presented the Claire Tholl Award for Historic Preservation to the Submarine Memorial Association. Ray Marshall accepted the award. The ceremonies were held at the historic "Church on the Green" in Hackensack.

The Claire Tholl Award for lifetime achievement in Historic Preservation was presented to Volunteers and Members of the NJ Naval Museum/USS Ling Submarine Memorial Association, Hackensack. They were cited for their care and preservation of this National Register World War II Balao class submarine. The volunteers of this association have been serving the community and the country since 1973 when the USS Ling arrived at her birth on the Hackensack River. Located on property donated by the Borg family, the volunteers care for the submarine, give tours, staff the on-site NJ Naval Museum, provide educational programs and hold Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Pearl Harbor Day services to honor all of our veterans.
