From the fore deck, you can see the forward anti-aircraft mount, with its 20mm gun. The USS LING was originally equipped with fore and aft 40mm AA guns. Behind the 20mm gun is the bridge, just above the bridge are the port and starboard lookout stations. The fence around the deck was added to protect visitors, and was not present when the USS LING was operational.
We will be entering the submarine through an opening created from the forward torpedo loading hatch. Torpedoes were loaded through this small, inclined hatch in the pressure hull (there is also one in the after torpedo room). Crew members entered and exited the pressure hull using vertical ladders located in several compartments in the boat. We opened the pressure hull and added stairs to accommodate visitors
