Located below the platform deck between main engines #3 and #4 is the auxiliary engine (known as the "Dinky Engine" or "Dink"), a Fairbanks-Morse Model 38E5-1/4 diesel engine, 7 cylinder vertically opposed type, 5-1/4" bore X 7-1/4" stroke, 440 BHP @ 1200 RPM. It is coupled to a General Electric 300 kW DC generator that could be used to carry the auxiliary electrical load, charge the batteries or provide propulsion power. This area is as tight as the photo suggests.
