The ammunition scuttle was used to pass 5" shells from the mess, through the pressure hull, to the deck. The outer cover is visible here, there is an inner cover at the lower end, in the mess. The LING has several ready lockers in the fairwater, which could be used to store (10) 5" shells for immediate use by the deck guns.
