A tremendous amount of heat was generated by the equipment located in this compartment, and the propulsion motors. A fresh air induction, similar to the ones in the engine rooms, provided fresh air when surfaced. Visible to the lower right is a selector box for the main motor pyrometers (temperature sensors).
