Main Motor #2, port side, is a double armature type, built by the Elliot Company. The armatures of each double armature main motor are mechanically coupled together, and perform as a single unit, however each armature is electrically independent of the other. The armatures are two wire, direct current, compensated compound/shunt, with series and commutating field windings. They are grouped as motor #1 and #3 (#1 main motor), and motor #2 and #4 (#2 main motor). Each armature was rated at 1362 HP @ 415 volts/2585 amps, providing a combined output of 2,724 HP per main motor. They are air cooled through heat exchangers.
