The After Engine Room has a service hatch in the overhead. This hatch was only used while in port, it was never opened during a patrol. The large flange with all the bolts is an inner or "depth charge" hatch. These inner hatches were also installed on the after battery hatch (not installed on LING) and the after torpedo room hatch. The shore power cables are run through this hatch.
