Visible as you board the LING, the periscope shears extend from the fairwater. The forward periscope is called the search periscope, and is fully extended. The aft periscope is the attack periscope. It has a smaller profile, producing less surface disturbance when raised. The larger of the two radar antennas provided early warning of approaching aircraft, and could be extended while submerged. The smaller was used to obtain target information. The three lookout stations are also visible, one on each side of the shears, the third behind the radar mast.
